I haven’t had many “friends” in my life. I’ve had lots of acquaintences, but few friends.
My birthday week festivities (thank you Cindy for that beautiful idea) began last night with dinner at Uno’s with Jennie, Mike, Dave and Missie. From there we partied at Sing Sing, and were joined by Will and Veronica. In the interim, I had many well wishes from those who could not be present for one reason or another. (And I know this primarily from reading numerous text messages from last night…but that’s a story for another day.)
I generally sit back in the wings and let Mike’s friendships and plans come first. I generally don’t plan much on my own. Even though this event wasn’t necessarily planned by me, it was for me. And, the people that sent their well wishes and those who were there to witness the event first-hand mean a lot to me.
Social networking (at least for me) has done so much more than simply create an “online” community. From the vastness that is the internet, the Yinz Team was born, friendships fostered and events created. I have met so many new people who I probably never would have met otherwise. I have met people like all of those who celebrated (in person and via social networking) and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Thank you to all of my friends. The celebration of my 29th birthday is one of those wonderful moments in life that I will look back on and smile (and perhaps tear up a little…but with happy tears).
